The receiver is pretty hard, so you either need to machine it, or use something like a Dremel tool and good files to cut the slot. If the slot is not there, (most didn't have it) you can cut a slot to allow the tang to be installed. If the slot is there, all you have to do is buy a tang and rivet it in place. Much depends on whether the receiver has a slot machined in the lower rear of the socket the stock fits into. Milled rifles are fitted with a riveted-in lower tang, and the Bulgarian SLR 95/96 didn't have the tang installed in order that the thumb hole stock could be installed.
